Big Brother Canada season 9 premiered last night, with CFNR’s very own Kiefer Collison finally making his debut on the show.
We here at the station were incredulous about the news that Kiefer had made the show, but we only had to wait a couple weeks to when we found out. Jericho, Kiefer’s partner, had waited months.
I spoke with her just after the first episode aired, and the first obvious question was, “How are you doing?”
“I was pacing all day! I couldn’t focus!” She exclaimed. “I had to watch at 4pm (the Eastern) feed. But I’m better than I was yesterday.” That relief was from being able to see Big Brother finally get started.
There was a new twist to this season of Big Brother, with Canada voting to choose Team Captains. Kiefer won as one of the Team Captains. Her feelings about Kiefer winning was the next obvious question.
“I don’t know! I was screaming. I was so excited. I watched the entire episode twice!” she recalled. “As soon as I saw his application video (at the beginning of the episode) I knew it! I knew he was a Captain! When I saw the ET Canada clip he wasn’t in the shot, and I thought ‘he’s in the last group!'”
I then asked her thoughts on how she thought Kiefer was handling the news that he was chosen by Canada to lead a team. “I think he was stressed at first. You could see him exhale. I think he was shocked.” Kiefer being a Team Captain gave him an immediate advantage, at least for this week.
Next, we talked about Kiefer and the other Captain, Tina being moved into The Secret Room to observe the other contestants as they entered the house. “I wished they could have heard the audio from the rest of the Houseguests.” Jericho said, “it would have helped them pick their teams for sure.”
And about Kiefer’s choices for teammates?
“Josh?” she poised about a fellow BC’er from New Westminster, “Really? But I’m glad he got Julie, and that he got the two people from BC.” Julie hails from Vancouver.
“I wonder how long it was before the first challenge. I wonder how long he had to get to know them.”
I had not watched in over a decade since Big Brother debuted in the USA. I next asked Jericho about them all bunking in the same bedroom, as that came to me a shock to me not remembering that was not new.
“Yeah, that’s normal,” Jericho explained. “But did you see how many of the rooms were locked right away? I wonder what they are?”
“I’m glad that Kiefer’s safe this week as Captain. I think Kiefer is relieved too. But now, he’s losing a team member” she continued as Kiefer’s team lost the first challenge.
Her thoughts on who is going to be the first Houseguest to go?
“I’m worried about Jedson. He’s strong, and male. But I know Kiefer has a strategy. And … I know he’s not going to underestimate the females. I wonder who he’s going to lose?!”
We’ll all find out in the next episode.
We’ll check in with Jericho as the weeks unfold. Come back and find out what is going through her mind as this amazing adventure continues!
