We spoke with Jericho (Kiefer’s partner) last week, but there was a media blackout on coverage until permission was given by Corus Entertainment/Global TV.
Feb 24th – Terrace, BC
“I’ve finally had a chance to sit down!” she first says as we chat on the phone about the huge news that Kiefer was a contestant on this season of Big Brother Canada.
Jericho was completely supportive of him trying to get on the show.
“I’m totally a fan of the show. I watch it all the time. The US(A) and Canada one. I’m super nervous, and so excited for him to be in the House.”
The “House” is of course where Kiefer will now be living for the next two months where he will compete against 13 other “houseguests” for the $100,000 prize.
Considering that they are both such huge fans of the show, they did well keeping any details secret of Kiefer’s application. “I knew it. I just knew that he was going to get in” when I asked about what the process was like for them. “It’s so exciting. It doesn’t seem real. Kiefer just went on doing day-to-day things. But I knew he was going to make it in.”
Those day-to-day things of course include all Kiefer’s family duties, which include their 7-year old twin girls and 1-year old son. Kiefer’s day-to-day also included getting sick just before applying, and then having COVID concerns. “He applied, then he got sick and even had to miss work, and also had to get a COVID test,” which was negative, all while awaiting word about his application.
How does Jericho think Kiefer will do on the show?
“Knowing him, he’s going to have a plan. Maybe to lay back a bit, but he will jump in, especially if it’s something he really believes in.” Jericho was a little skeptical about the number of Houseguests that are on this season of the show. There are only 14, and usually, there are 16 contestants. She thinks something is up.
Even on the day Kiefer was announced being on the show, friends and family were still unsure if he was actually a contestant or not. “They’re still asking me if he’s in..!” But they’re so happy and excited, and many of them will be watching Big Brother for the first time.” said Jericho. She, on the other hand, was playing it calm, cool, and collected right up until Kiefer had to catch his flight to Toronto. “I told him, I’d drop him off at the airport. I was pretty excited, but calm since we found out. But, when he actually had to leave, there was no way I could drive him to the airport. I didn’t think it was going to be so hard to say good-bye. It’s so crazy. I’m so excited.”
In typical Kiefer fashion, as he was getting ready to leave he was downplaying the excitement telling Jericho “Oh, I’ll probably be back in a week” and “there’s no guarantee!” But of course, Jericho wants Kiefer to win, but her first wish for him as the show starts next week? “Don’t get voted out the first week! That would be embarrassing.”
