The B.C. Government announced new Covid-19 safety measures in schools.
In a press conference today, Minister of Education Jennifer Whiteside said K-12 staff, secondary and middle school students will need to wear masks when in school.
The only exception will be if they are sitting or standing and there is a barrier in place. As well as if they are eating or drinking. Some other updates to the safety plan include holding high intensity physical activity outside whenever possible. Shared equipment such as musical instruments, treadmills and weight machines can only be used if cleaned between uses according to school sanitation guidelines. Masks should also now be worn while singing.
The B.C. Government is also investing the second instalment of $121 million in federal funding to be used to continue to support these safety plans. You can check out all the guidelines at the government of B.C.’s website.
