The province is set to give some relief to small and medium-sized forestry businesses which are still operating during the pandemic.
The provincial government said in a statement, ‘a record number of trees were planted in 2020, with no recorded Covid-19 transmissions.’
In September, The Government of Canada launched the $30-million Forest Sector Safety Measures Fund program to help offset additional Covid-19 health and safety costs.
B.C. is expecting about 175 companies to apply for its $9.3 million share of the fund. These costs of implementing Covid-19 health and safety measure include, personal protective equipment, hand washing stations, extra vehicles and accommodations.
Eligible companies must have on average fewer than 500 employees across all offices in Canada. Their primary business activities should be in forestry and logging, support activities for forestry, wood product manufacturing, or pulp and paper manufacturing.
Companies can apply for the fund through the Government of B.C.’s website.
