Signs have begun popping up in various municipalities with the phrase, “am I racist”. These messages are a part of the first major campaign of BC’s Office of the Human Rights Commissioner.
The Office’s new campaign was updated today to ask more specific questions about what constitutes racism. One sign asks: “If I say I don’t see skin colour, am I racist?: Another question: “If I want to forget our province’s history, am I racist?”
Starting today the signs will direct viewers to an interactive educational experience that ultimately lands people on bchumanrights.ca/BeAntiRacist. This website is designed to take a deeper look at the issues that divide British Columbians.
The campaign comes amid concerns of structural racism in health care and other institutions. An update is expected later today into the investigation of racism in health care.
