A new report by BC Hydro has found that more than 90 per cent of Canadians believe Covid-19 will impact how they celebrate the holidays.
With the majority planning on spending more time at home, 20 per cent plan to do more decorating indoors and outdoors in an attempt to create more holiday cheer. Elaborate holiday displays account for about three per cent of the provincial electricity load during the holiday season, that number is expected to grow this year.
Nearly 22 per cent of holiday enthusiasts plan to put up eight strands on average while 10 per cent plan to put up 10 strands. About 15 per cent of outdoor decorators plan to put up three or more inflatable displays, and five per cent plan to put up six to 15.
As the brighter displays may bring more holiday cheer they may also bring higher electrical bills. Some ways you can save money is through switching to LED’s, plugging in timers to automatically turn lights off and monitoring your usage through MyHydro.
