LifeLabs announced today it will be launching its Covid-19 antibody test.
The test has been approved by Health Canada to help people determine if they’ve had prior Covid-19 infection. However, these types of tests should not be used to rule out active infections.
Antibody responses to the virus take some time to develop and are different in each individual. For the most accurate results, a test should be ordered three to four weeks post-onset of symptoms or exposure. Another important note is that having Covid-19 antibodies does not mean immunity to the virus.
The test can currently be purchased from LifeLabs in Ontario or B.C. for $75. If you’re interested in getting this test speak with your health care provider first.
