The transition from the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) to Employment Insurance (EI) will still happen on Sept 27. Today, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, Carla Qualtrough, and Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, Ahmed Hussen, made the announcement.
EI will now be available to more people, supporting an additional 400,000 people. Employers will also be able to make use of the Registered Supplemental Unemployment plan to support their employees.
In light of the pandemic, the waiting period wil be waived for EI sickness benefit claimants. To make the transition easier, the majority of Canadians that are currently receiving CERB and are eligible for EI will be automatically transitioned.
