The inquest is scheduled to begin on Sept. 28, at 9:30 a.m. at the Dawson Creek Courthouse. The death of the 48 year old was reported to the B.C. Coroners Service on July 16 of 2015, following a police altercation in Dawson Creek.
Michael Eglison, presiding coroner and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses under oath to determine the facts surrounding the death. The jury will then have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances.
An inquest is a formal process that allows for public presentation of evidence related to a death. The B.C. Coroners Service is not a fault finding agency they are looking to gather facts surrounding why a death took place.
