Some new data released by B.C. Hydro shows that the use of electric vehicle charging stations has rebounded since Covid-19 restrictions were eased.
In February, before the pandemic began, there were more than 21,000 charging sessions at B.C. Hydro’s fast charging stations across the province. When the stay at home measures were first implemented in mid-March that number dropped by nearly 20 per cent, by April it dropped nearly 30 per cent more.
Since April the amount of uses of the charging station have rebounded by almost 50 per cent in the month of June. Although the numbers show that the use of fast charging stations has increased, the majority of the use is still at the Grandview Highway Superstore in Vancouver.
The frequency of charging at highway stations indicates that more British Columbians are commuting or taking road trips.
