The City of Williams Lake is hoping to put some the region’s wood fibre to use in a new green energy project.
The City is working with B.C.-based Transition Energy Inc. (TEI) to build a plant that would convert residual wood fibre into renewable natural gas which could then be fed into the FortisBC gas system.
Mayor Walt Cobb says the Swedish technology would require much less fibre than what’s currently being used by other residual buyers in the region.
Cobb says agreements are already in place with FortisBC to take the gas and with the provincial forests ministry to secure the needed wood fibre.
Talks are currently underway with Atlantic Power to potentially co-locate the facility at the site of its Williams Lake Biomass Power Plant.
