Fort St John Mounties say a new phone scam has been making the rounds in the region.
Police say the caller identifies themself as police or a Service Canada agent working with police and then goes on to state that there are warrants for your arrest.
The fraudster then asks you to buy gift cards and then instructs you where to send the cards.
Investigators say the scammers are using caller ID spoofing that disguises the telephone number display and, in some cases, the number appears to be from RCMP.
RCMP says police and government agencies will never call asking for money for any reason.
Police are advising anyone who receives a similar call to hang up and contact RCMP.
