The Fort St. John RCMP have received a number of reports of counterfeit money being used in the community over the last three weeks.
A suspect has been charged in relation to the counterfeit money. Several other suspects have been identified and RCMP are forwarding charge recommendations to the courts.
There are a few ways to identify real money versus fake money. Such as, the new Bank of Canada notes are made of polymer which should feel like a smooth plastic on the fingers, the counterfeit ones are made of paper and are not as smooth, a real bank note will have a number on the semi transparent part of the bill.
Any local business that identifies someone trying to pass them fake money is asked to keep the bills and call police immediately. The RCMP are continuing to investigate and ask if anyone has any further information to contact them or if you want to remain anonymous you can go through Crime Stoppers.
