The City of Quesnel has big plans to tackle climate change.
The Quesnel City Council was successful in obtaining a grant to hire a person to assist in documenting the cities carbon footprint both as a corporation and as a community.
Council has also adopted emissions reduction targets that match those of the Province of B.C. They plan to reduce emissions from 2007 levels, this will be a decrease of 40% by 2030, 60% by 2040 and 80% by 2050.
With these new targets in place the Carbon Review Coordinator will now be able to work with Council to develop clear strategies.
Council also plans to declare a climate emergency. However, they will need a clear agenda and the knowledge of how higher levels of government can help them.
