It’s a loss that could mean even more trouble for B.C.’s beleaguered salmon fishing industry.
The Pacific salmon fishery is losing its Marine Stewardship Council eco-certification after industry withdrew from certification to avoid failing its upcoming audit.
Greg Knox of Skeena Wild Conservation Trust says says the Department of Fisheries and Oceans has failed to meet a number of conditions necessary for certification.
Without certification, Knox says the industry could lose access to major markets and possibily face lower prices for its products.
