Coast Mountain College is expanding mobile trades training with help from the federal government.
Ottawa announced $1.3 million dollars toward a second mobile classroom in addition to over $700,000 invested by the college and CMTN Foundation.
Economic development minister Navdeep Bains says the Mobile Training Unit (MTU) will offer a variety of courses and programs from professional cook, to business to health programs to Indigenous and remote communities.
“This mobile training unit is critical to ensuring that education is accessible and reaches people where they live,” said Ken Burt, CEO of Coast Mountain College in a news release. “This is vital to bringing innovative programming to remote and Indigenous communities.”
It’s expected that the mobile trades program will train over 100 students over the next three years.
The new unit is expected to arrive sometime this month and be in the field by the end of September.
