With children heading back to school soon, the Town of Smithers hopes new crosswalk upgrades will help students stay safe.
Solar-powered flashing lights have been added to the crosswalk at King Street and Second Avenue near Muheim elementary school.
The change was made after a number of near-miss incidents at the intersection and a traffic review of the location.
The Town of Smithers Prevention and Community Safety Officer will be helping students to the new crossing during the first week of school.
The initiative was partially funded by ICBC road safety.
