It may be getting closer to fall, but one area of Northern B.C. appears to be heading straight for an early winter,
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the area and part of the Alaska Highway with a dump of 20 to 30 cm expected to hit the ground.
Forecasters say an unseasonably cold arctic airmass will descend on northern B.C. Saturday turning rain into heavy snowfall by the the evening as temperatures quickly approach the freezing mark.
Up to 20 cm or more could fall by Sunday at higher elevations of the Alaska Highway between Fort Nelson and Watson Lake and to the south of Fort Nelson.
Significant snowfall accumulations are not expected in Fort Nelson because any snow that does fall will be too wet. The snow is expected to end by Monday morning.
Environment Canada says travel is not recommended.
