As expected, strong winds have caused growth in some northwest B.C. wildfires.
The Barrington River fire 50 kilometres west of Telegraph Creek covers about 4,600 hectares and has spread mainly toward the southwest.
Officials say the fire is still about 25 kilometres from a fish camp at Tahltan Lake, where structures have been outfitted with structural protection units.
While smoke is highly visible in the area, it is not threatening any structures.
Crews also found a small holdover fire Tuesday within the perimeter of last year’s Alkali Lake fire north of Highway 51 near the confluence of Beatty Creek and the Tahltan River.
Officials say it is not a risk to communities and is unlikely to spread.
The Southwest Tagish Lake fire 40 kilometres west of Atlin has spread toward the northeast.
Although it has spread, the size is now estimated at 890 hectares, down from the previous 1400 hectare estimation, due to better mapping.
Seventeen firefighters along with helicopters, are working to extinguish the parts of the fire closest to a number of area cabins.
