A northwest B.C. First Nation is sounding the alarm about potentially deadly drugs in the community.
The Gitsegukla Band Office issued an alert after it says two community members consumed marijuana laced with fentanyl.
It says the presence of the powerful synthetic opioid was confirmed by bloodwork, but did not disclose the condition of the people affected.
The First Nation is urging those who use marijuana to buy it through a government-regulated shop or online and be safe while using drugs.
The Gitsegukla First Nation says it has contacted the RCMP.
The BC Coroners Service says fentanyl was detected in approximately 83% of illicit drug deaths for the first five months of 2019 and 87% of illicit drug deaths for all of 2018.
