The B.C. government is funding the expansion of high-speed internet in the Cariboo.
The Connecting British Columbia program is providing $298,406 to ABC Communications to help upgrade wireless upgrades in Bouchie Lake, rural areas of Quesnel, Lac la Hache, Lone Butte, and Ten Mile Lake.
Cariboo Regional District vice-chair John Massier says this type of investment is vital when it comes to growing communities and a critical need during emergencies, as recent wildfire seasons have shown.
The Connecting British Columbia program supports work to expand high-speed internet access in rural and Indigenous communities by providing grants to cover up to 50% of project costs.
The total cost of the project is estimated at $596,812.
