BC’s police watchdog is investigating after someone died in Prince George RCMP custody.
The Independent Investigations Office says Prince George Mounties arrested a person for causing a disturbance Friday night, shortly before 9:30.
According to the IIO, the person was observed to be in distress just before 4:30 Saturday morning and paramedics were called.
The individual was taken to hospital, but, nearly two and a half hours later, medical staff notified RCMP that the person had died.
The IIO says it will be investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
No details about the person’s age or gender have been released.
