The Cariboo Regional District says its emergency operations centre is turning towards recovery as waters recede from what’s been described as a massive flood not likely to happen again for another 200 years.
The flooding inundated hundreds of kilometres of B.C.’s Chilcotin region.
The district says it appears damage to residential homes is minimal, however, the impact on outbuildings, hayfields, irrigation channels and fencing was significant.
Non-residents of the flood zone are still being advised to avoid the area.
The CRD will be hosting a public meeting on Saturday, June 20th at 2 p.m.at the Big Creek Community Hall, as it takes steps toward a recovery plan.
Officials say the meeting will give residents an opportunity to meet with CRD representatives, along with other partner agencies and to receive informational updates and resources.
