Fresh provincial funding will allow more BC athletes to compete in the 2020 North American Indigenous Games in Halifax.
A new 1.46 million dollar investment will offset costs for more than 500 Indigenous athletes, coaches, staff, and more.
If not for the funding boost, Team BC participation fees would need to be increased, adding another financial barrier for athletes.
Funding will be administered by I-SPARC and will cover anything from team prep, to registration fees, to travel costs.
Held every 3 years, the Games feature 17 sports and draw more than 5 thousand Indigenous athletes.
During the last edition, held in Toronto in 2017, Team BC paced the rest of the field with 176 total medals for the second Games in a row.
