Fort St John RCMP are reminding residents that two wrongs don’t make a right.
According to police, a recent issue involving a dog in the community has sparked criminal forms of retaliation.
On June 15th, police received public reports of a malnourished dog in a local yard.
Police siezed the dog and brought it to the local SPCA shelter, who then brought the dog to a vet for examination.
It was determined that the 16 year-old dog was in very poor health and that the most compassionate course of action was to euthanize the dog.
After contacting the property owner, they found out that the owner had been hospitalized for the last 2 months and had trusted their dog’s care to friends.
Since then, police have received reports of vandalism and mischief on the property, and are reminding the public that vigilante justice can be prosecuted as a criminal offense.
