Today, the federal government announced more than 13 million dollars in funding for projects to commemorate Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
In response to the release of the Nation Inquiry’s final report earlier this month, the funding will support more than 100 initiatives country wide.
Funding was announced today by Minister for Women and Gender Equality Mayam Monsef, who calls commemoration a powerful way to honour truths, support healing, create awareness, and advance reconciliation.
Monsef also reaffirmed that Canada is reviewing the final report and working on a National Action Plan to address its contents.
