If the Tsleil-Waututh Nation have their way, the Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion won’t remain out of the courts for very long.
Yesterday, the federal government issued their second approval for the project after the Federal Court of Appeal squashed the first.
Members from the Tsleil-Waututh Nation were among those of several First Nations to take part in that initial appeal.
A secondary consultation process with First Nations was held following the appeal, but the Nation says it wasn’t enough.
According to the Nation’s legal teams, those efforts may have hit the letter of the law, but not the spirit of consultation.
Members of the Tsleil-Waututh still fear the environmental impacts of a spill on their coasts and communities.
They say their commitment is to the land and they will continue to fight for it by appealing this decision with the Federal Courts.
