Two new provincial road maintenance contracts have been awarded in the Cariboo, covering Quesnel, Williams Lake, and more.
Both contracts are for 10 year terms, with an option for a 5 year extensions, and both will take effect on July 1st.
A contract for Service Area 17, which covers the Central Cariboo, including Williams Lake and Bella Coola, has been awarded to Dawson Road Maintenance.
Service Area 18’s contract will go to incumbant contractor Emcon Services Limited, who will continue to cover the Northern Cariboo, including Quesnel and Nazko.
A number of changes in the new contracts will promote improved standards and conditions on roadways in the regions.
Under the new contracts, providers will be required to quickly update the public on conditions, clear snow off of Class A highways in 24 hours, increase patrol frequencies, and more.
26 of BC’s 28 maintenance contracts are up for renewal this year.
