According to Mayor Bob Simpson, the province’s proposed North-South Interconnector for Highway 97 is the right move for the City of Quesnel.
Simpson made his thoughts on the project clear in a release this morning as he attempted to halt the spreading of misinformation around the project.
Currently, the proposed route would see the existing bridges over the Quesnel River be moved upstream, and a four-lane strip of highway built next to the railway tracks.
This new strip would feature two four-lane bridges with no overhead structures, bike and pedestrian lanes, and easy access from both ends.
Simpson says the Interconnector is key as it would move commercial traffic away from the downtown, increasing both safety and attractiveness.
In the release, Simpson mentions a small group spreading rumours about the project and encourages residents to become informed on the project.
