Members of the Wet’suwet’en Nation and other opponents of Coastal GasLink’s proposed cross-BC pipeline will be in Prince George today.
Three days of hearings are set to begin today which will determine whether an interim injunction granted to CGL in December will remain in place.
CGL had received an interim injunction to allow them to conduct work on their pipeline in Wet’suwet’en territory unimpeded.
In January, 14 Unist’ot’en land defenders were arrested by RCMP at a Gidimt’en checkpoint when they refused to allow workers past.
From the beginning, CGL has said they’ve signed agreements with all 20 First Nations elected councils along the pipeline’s route.
But the same agreements were not made with Hereditary Chiefs, and the Wet’suwet’en say that voids CGL’s authority for lack of consent.
Now, the BC Supreme Court will hear arguments from both sides to help them determine whether or not to extend the injunction.
