Drivers travelling between Terrace and Prince Rupert can expect to see members of the Nine Tribes of the Coast Tsimshian Friday.
The Metlakatla First Nation and Lax Kw’alaams Band will be holding an information blockade near the Kasiks Bridge on Highway 16.
The First Nations are upset about the B.C. Government’s plan to sell the Nasoga Gulf Lands to the Nisga’a Nation.
The Nisga’a Nation announced back in 2016 that it was seeking to acquire the 22,000 hectare parcel of Provincial Crown Land.
The Nine Tribes of Coast Tsimshian claim Aboriginal Title over the lands, which they say hold great potential to support LNG development, and will defend it vigorously by direct action and through the courts.
The Tribes say they support responsible development in their traditional territory and have a proposal that they say will benefit all parties.
The information blockade is scheduled between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
