Last week, the City of Quesnel was approved to receive federal grant funding to hire a Carbon Review Coordinator.
Today, Mayor Bob Simpson explained exactly what that means for the community.
Referring to the position as a Climate Change Planner, Simpson says they will help to create, adapt, and monitor greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategies.
Quesnel has proposed targets which mirror the province’s to reduce emissions to 40 percent below 2007 levels by 2030, 60 percent by 2040, and 80 percent by 2050.
According to Simpson, the planner will help the City to make the changes necessary to meet those goals.
In addition, they will help to educate the community as a whole through engagement innitiatives and lend expertise to their on-going waste management system review.
