After responding to more than 160 calls in BC last year, Ground Search and Rescue teams are being bolstered with more provincial funding.
Another 1 million dollar investment from the province’s 18.6 million dollar 3 year allotment will go towards supporting summer activities.
As we approach the wildfire season, the new funding will cover essentials, such as specialized training, protective equipment, and operating costs.
There are roughly 80 volunteer reliant GSAR groups across BC supported by the funding.
Roughly 25 hundred volunteers take part in over 16 hundred GSAR missions in BC each year, more than the rest of Canada combined.
