Canfor wasn’t the only forestry company handing out bad news yesterday, as West Fraser announced a number of curtailments.
Sawmills in Smithers, Williams Lake, Quesnel, Chetwynd and Fraser Lake, will be affected by the temporary cutbacks.
Once again, hightened log costs and a weak global market were labeled as the leading factors in the decision.
West Fraser says the curtailments will last for a week and will be coming sometime this month, though they didn’t specify when.
Over the course of that week, the company expects to miss out on 30 million board feet of lumber.
With the new announcement, West Fraser has now announced more than 125 million board feet-worth of temporary closures since December.
In addition, the company has permanently closed operations worth 300 million board-feet in that same time period.
