North District RCMP say efforts to find a man swept away in the Peace River last week have been called off.
Police have not released his name, but an online fundraising campaign has identified the missing man as Aaron Kingma of Calgary.
Kingma was fishing with friends near Hudson’s Hope Wednesday, May 26 when he was pulled away by a strong current and did not resurface.
Corporal Madonna Saunderson says jet boats, an aircraft, and shore searchers were not able to find the father of two and it was not safe for a dive team to enter the water.
Angie Fallis Patterson, who has organized the fundraiser to help Kingma’s family, describes him as an amazing husband and an adored father of two daughters.
RCMP say the incident is being treated as a missing persons case.
