Changes to Canada’s drinking water guidelines have pushed Quesnel’s supply in to an unacceptable range for one element.
Under the new guidelines, released earlier this month, Quesnel currently sits above the recommended level of Manganese.
Manganese is a naturally occuring element which is essential to human survival.
But, following recent studies, Health Canada has determined that water supplies should contain no more than 0.12 milligrams per litre.
Quesnel’s water system currently measures out at approximately 0.22 milligrams per litre.
City officials are currently reviewing options to pull the number within compliance, but are assuring residents that the system has not deteriorated.
There is currently no water advisories within the city, and you can filter out Manganese most effectively using reverse osmosis systems.
