Three more dead grey whales have been found beached on Haida Gwaii, bringing BC’s 2019 total to 5.
Grey whales are classified as under special concern by Canada’s committee on the status of endangered wildlife.
Officials from the DFO say they have conducted autopsies on 4 of the 5 whales, though more research will be required to find the underlying cause of the deaths.
In total, more than 60 grey whales have been found dead on North America’s west coast this year.
