The Indigenous film community and Namgis Nation are mourning the loss of a visionary filmmaker.
Barb Cranmer (Lakwalogwa) of Alert Bay, B.C. passed away peacefully May 17 after a fight with brain cancer.
The multi award-winning writer, director, and documentary filmmaker’s credits include I’tusto “To Rise Again”,
T’lina “The Rendering of Wealth”, and Qatuwas (People gathering Together).
Cranmer also served as an elected councillor for her community and as a key organizer in the Seafest music festival in Alert Bay.
Cranmer was 59 years old.
