Local governments and First Nations are receiving an additional 31 million dollars in emergency preparedness funds.
That money will go in to the province’s Community Emergency Preparedness Fund, bringing its total tally to 69.5 million dollars.
30 million of the CEPF’s total funding will go towards flood mitigation, mapping, and planning, after the two of the worst flood seasons on record.
Another 1 million of that funding will go to Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility Training, which will help emergency personell better work with and in First Nations communities.
In addition, the province has announced 19 million dollars in funding toward 40 wildfire risk reduction projects in the province.
Most of those projects are wildfire fuel management efforts within 2 kilometres of a community.
