As of noon today, a category 2 open fire ban previously rescinded by the Northwest Fire Centre is back on.
Originally issued on May 6th, the ban was lifted over the long weekend due to favourable conditions.
But with drought-like conditions on the horizon and temperatures rising, the Centre has decided to reissue the ban for the Skeena, Bulkley, and Nadina Fire Zones.
Category 2 open fires include: any burning piles smaller than 2 metres high and wide, and stubble and grass fires under 0.2 hectares.
Stricter fire restrictions are in place for the Cassiar Fire Zone. Open fires, including campfires, industrial, backyard burning, fireworks, firecrackers, tiki torches, sky lanterns, and chimineas, are banned.
Other restrictions are also in effect depending on local regulations.
