Kermode Friendship Society Executive Director Cal Albright has penned a letter to Education Minister Rob Flemming regarding recent reassignments within the school district.
Recently, Coast Mountains District Superintendent Katherine McIntosh announced a number of high profile staffing changes.
According to McIntosh, the leadership changes stem from administrators choosing to return to the classroom.
Mr. Albright’s letter questions whether or not the moves were truly their decision, and whether they are in the best interest of the Indigenous population.
Given the high population of Indigenous students enrolled in the community, Albright is upset over the lack of consultation and transparency.
The letter calls for Minister Flemming to put the decision on hold, have the Board consult with Terrace’s Indigenous community on a solution, and to make the process more transparent.
