More than 6 thousand tonnes of yard and garden waste are sent to the Foothills Landfill each year, according to an update provided to the Regional District of Fraser- Fort George.
During their regular meeting yesterday, Directors received an update on the District’s composting efforts.
For the last 25 years, the District has been diverting compostable yard waste to the Prince George based landfill.
That compost is then processed and used to produce a Class A compost sold by the District, known as NorGrow.
In addition to their composting efforts, the District also supplies residents with Earth Machine backyard composters, capable of diverting 200 kgs of organic waste per year.
