After being found guilty of an October 2017 attempted murder north of New Hazelton, Ronald Fowler is facing as much as 10 years behind bars.
On March 15th, Ronald Fowler was found guilty of shooting neighbour George Parent on his Two Mile property.
Now, the BC Supreme Court is seeking a 9 to 10 year sentence due to what they call aggravating factors.
According to the prosecution, the fact that Fowler was carrying a loaded, prohibited firearm, that he fired multiple shots, and that the first shot might have killed Parent had it not hit his cell phone, are key factors in the sentencing.
But the defense cited an ongoing history of abuse from Parent, a lack of premeditation, and the random nature of the incident as reasons for a lesser sentence.
As a result, Fowler’s lawyer is seeking the minimum sentence of 4 years.
A sentencing decision is scheduled to be made on June 10th.
