An application for a judicial review in to Coastal GasLink’s pipeline project has been filed by the Unist’ot’en House group.
In February, Unist’ot’en members found six cultural artifacts on their territory along the proposed pipeline’s route.
CGL subsequently filed a mitigation plan with the BC Oil and Gas Commission and Archeology Branch, which was later accepted.
But the Unist’ot’en say they were not consulted on this plan, and that an impact assessment has yet to be conducted on the land.
On Wednesday, they filed their judicial review with the BC Supreme Court to challenge the decision to accept the plan.
According to the House group, their archeologist has discovered a number of deficiencies within the CGL plan, which they intend to fight using Canada’s own legal system.
