LNG Canada has fixed an issue that was causing loud, explosion-like, noises to resonate from their Kitimat facility at night.
According to the company, the noises were caused by what’s known as “bird bangers”- air cannons designed to dissuade birds from nesting.
Intended to function from 6:30 to 10:00 in the morning, and from 5:00 to 9:00 at night, a malfunction was causing them to go off later in the night.
Legally, LNG Canada must leave certain species’ nesting areas undisturbed once established.
Bird bangers offer a non-lethal way to dissuade the birds from nesting within active construction sites.
LNG Canada says they have now fixed the issue and residents should no longer hear the bangs during nighttime hours.
