22 million trees are set to be planted in the Cariboo between now and the end of June in areas devastated by the 2017 wildfires.
Reforestation efforts got underway today, with a focus on areas scorched by 2017’s three largest wildfires.
11 million trees will be planted in the area of the Plateau Fire Complex, 10 million in the Elephant Hill area, and 2.5 million in the Hanceville Fire area.
Roughly 796 thousand hectares of land in the Cariboo was burned during the 2017 wildfires, with more than half the trees in that area lost.
In total, the government will plant 259 million trees this year to support reforestation efforts across the province.
