The BC Wildfire Service is banning open burning in more areas of northern B.C.
The Cariboo Fire Centre says Category 2 open burns will be prohibited throughout its area as of noon Friday May 10 to prevent human-caused wildfires.
A ban on Category 2 burns in the Prince George Fire Centre takes place Wednesday, May 8 at noon, and has been in place across three areas of the Northwest Fire Centre since Monday, May 6.
The restrictions vary by fire centre, but do not ban campfires that are a half-metre high by a half-metre wide or smaller and does not apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane, or briquettes.
A list of the areas affected by the open burning bans is available online.
