Big improvements are coming for bike trails southeast of Quesnel.
The City, CRD, and Gold Rush Cycling Club have hired Thomas Schoen of First Journey Trail to build a new mountain bike climbing trail in Dragon Mountain Provincial Park.
Officials say the new 9 km machine and hand-built trail will improve accessibility to all skill levels, improve user safety, and put the trail network int he spotlight.
The project will also bring the existing trails in the park up to standards set by International Mountain Bike of Canada.
The trails in the park are designated for non-motorized use by mountain bikers, hikers, and trail runners.
The existing network will be open during trail construction, but users will need to watch for work crews and follow closure signs.
Depending on the the weather, the project is scheduled to be complete in October 2019.
