Prince George RCMP are reminding residents never to touch a suspicious package or anything that appears to be an explosive.
A local man learned that lesson after a he found what looked like a pipe bomb along a trail near CN Centre Saturday night.
He brought the item home and called police, who promptly evacuated the residence and neighbouring houses.
The neighbours were allowed back a short time later, but the man and the other residents of the home had to find another place to sleep until the RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit could get to the scene Sunday morning.
RCMP determined the device was not explosive and destroyed it before the residents were allowed to return.
Mounties are encouraging people to leave suspicious packages or potentially explosive devices alone and instead, call 9-1-1 immediately.
