Indigenous leaders from around the world are gathered in New York City this week for the 18th United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.
Among them is Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chief Na’moks, who spoke to the Forum regarding his Nation’s on-going battle for territorial rights.
During his address, Chief Na’moks said he was troubled by the country continually placing the interests of corporations above the rights of Indigenous peoples.
Chief Na’moks spoke in reference to his Nation’s on-going dispute with Coastal GasLink over their proposed pipeline route.
A number of other local Nations also have representation at the annual Forum, which runs until May 3rd.
